Meropa Casino is hitting the ground running this new year as it gives back to the community once again, this time for a running shoe drive campaign in collaboration with Mahube Social Partners.

“The initiative, which calls for the donation of new and pre-loved running shoes in good condition, is aimed at promoting the benefits of an active lifestyle, both mentally and physically, to the local community who cannot afford running shoes,” said Meropa General Manager Sammy Mokhele. “As part of the campaign, Meropa aims to collect and donate 300 pairs, through staff and other supplier donations to ensure the campaign has the greatest impact.”

Previously Mahube Social Partners, a Non-Profit Company focused on addressing social challenges, collected over 100 pairs of shoes and donated them to underprivileged runners.

Eight beneficiary organisations have been identified as recipients for the next round of running shoes campaign, namely Moletji Athletics Club, Fitness For All Athletics Team, Pula Madibogo, Makgefola, Megoring and Diopong primary schools, and Hwiti and Ramashobohle high schools.

“Some of the runners who will receive shoes have the talent and potential to make a career out of running – they also qualify and participate in the Comrades Marathon,” said Mahube Social Partners co-ordinator, Dr MM Molepo.  “There is always the chance of unearthing hidden talent in sports when opportunities are made available to participants.”

Molepo concludes, “We are calling on the support of others to help make a difference to this worthy cause and asking people, of which you may already be a runner, businesses and corporates, as well as other more affluent running clubs.”

Those who wish to donate can drop off at Meropa’s Reward Centre, Polokwane Athletics Club or Mercurius Motors Polokwane.
